I"M BACK...WITH A VENGANCE (Glittering Court and Rebel of the Sands Commentary)

Hey all,

It's me again, back from the dead it seems. Let me just start with filling in a little bit of what has been going on in my life so far. The main reason that I've stopped updating is because I have been absolutely swamped between classes and such so posting has been a bit out of the question, BUT now I am on summer vacay and that means, yes, a whole lot of reading and writing. I recently got on watt pad, but I am really just trying to find the right outlet to post updated parts to (I FINALLY FOUND A NAME I LIKE) "The Black Prince" otherwise known as "The Rose Order " (which I did away with because it doesn't play as big a role). At the moment, I have about 16 chapters down that need editing and I will probably print out a hard copy and do that when I finish the whole story, making corrections as needed.

Anyways, what else have I been up to you ask? Wellllll reading a whole lot. I am about halfway through the second Game of Thrones, Clash of Kings, but will be placing that on hold because I have found some other items I really really want to read that I can blow through a little faster. Not to mention that I don't yet have access to season 2 and I like to watch the show after I finish a book. SO moving on. I just finished three books these past two weeks that I really absolutely loved.
1) The White Queen by Phillipa Gregory (I watched the show first and it was gorgeous)
2)Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton (A new personal favorite that has been placed on my special reading shelf of favorites along with the Grisha trilogy, Throne of Glass books, ACOTAR, and The Graceling books)
3) The Glittering Court by Richelle Mead (Ok, so a little back story on how I picked this one up. So I have never read Vampire Academy or any of her other books so I didn't have that to go on. I am a total sucker for romance, like it is one of my most favorite guilty pleasures aside from mint ice cream. I literally picked it up in the Teen Romance section because why not and it caught my eye.)

I am currently reading A Court of Mist and Fury as of tonight, and right off the bat am being smacked in the face with....interesting behavior and ideas. If you've read it you'll know what I mean. Next on the platter is Six of Crows, then hopefully the newest book to the ACOTAR trilogy that just came out, the sequel to Rebel of the Sands, and the sequel to Six of Crows (which I'll probably prolong because I loved the Grisha so much that I really don't want it to be over :( ...). Then following that, the rest of the Cousin's War series and Game of Thrones. I also really want to read this book that I saw at Barnes and Noble when I was looking for Six of Crows, called the Book Jumper. If anybody's read it, please share thoughts.

Okay, okay now to the commentary. I'm not going to give one on The White Queen, just because there was just so much I want to talk about in it that it deserves its own post. If anybody wants my thoughts I'll write one, but otherwise eh.
First order of business:
Rebel of The Sands
Like I said this one has been placed on my favorite book shelf. Its short, only like 314 pages, so I took me about a half day to read but I loved every single, nail biting second. The back is a bit misleading, painting what seems to be a tale centered around a really sexy romance with the desert as a background (I swear I didn't get it just for that, I had heard about it and was like yes, let's read). BUT there was hardly a lot of romance. It was all action and adventure with a touch of romantic flair. When I first read the comments and summaries on the the cover I was thinking more along the lines of ACOTAR which is really really sexual and heavily relying on that kind of intrigue; it was a far cry from that and far more appropriate for younger audiences, aside from the gun violence and such. Another thing about the cover, I bought the hard cover and the jacket is beautiful, like so aesthetically pleasing I almost bought it because of that :). The story basically follows a girl that is an amazing gunslinger with perfect aim, setting up the scene that portrays a feminist point of view, showing how Amani (the girl) is able to break loose of the gender constraints she faces and break out of the dead beat town she lives in. It was riveting to watch filled with guns, explosions, magic, you name it. But it wasn't so overbearing that it was boring. The shortness really helped with that. One thing I also want to talk about is Jin. Omyword. Brief fangirl moment for the mysterious foreigner that...well...no spoilers ;P. He was seriously just yes. Anyways, that brings me to the one thing I didn't like. It felt like one second Amani hated men and then all of a sudden Jin shows up and shes enamored by him. I felt that it was more because he was different than anything she'd ever seen so there is that. But I'm just going to chalk it up to the book's being so short. With this being said, hardly anything happens, the first kiss isn't real and then there is another brief one with 6 pages or so to finish.

In short: it straight up rocked my world.

NEXT:
The Glittering Court

Alrighty...so...romance. This definitely delivered, again not quite as much as ACOTAR did, but it was a healthy dose and it was cute. I really enjoyed the dynamic character of Adelaide, who was actually Countess Elizabeth Witmore. Though this may seem really dumb, but I could not take the name Cedric seriously. It made me laugh every single solitary time. I'm not sure why, it just didn't resonate with me I suppose. Anyway the ending is happy and there is a sequel of sorts (though you can read it out of order I think because it follows a different character). I don't think I'll read it just because I was happy to stop at this one, though I thought that with ACOTAR and I'm already wrapped into the next one, so who knows.  I read this one in about two days, and it was definitely a fun one. My favorite part was the riches to rags idea that Mead really played with. At sometimes though I found (especially in the beginning) the main character/narrator a little juvenile and well annoying. But as the story progressed Adelaide proved to be a witty, sarcastic, and pretty hilarious. Another thing I thought was so cool, or odd however you see it, was that Mead never ever gave the character's true name, until the very end. Trust me I looked haha. The name she only ever gives is Adelaide after Elizabeth swaps places with a maid servant.

In short: It made me laugh a lot out loud. Totally worth checking out :)

That's all for this time!

Keep up with the magic and follow me through the ups and downs of my writing and reading through the blog.
I am also on google+ at NM Black, so feel free to hit me up with questions, concerns, and critique.

Au Revoir,
